The Hydro Hotel is a 3 star superior hotel located in the heart of the Burren in the historic spa town of Lisdoonvarna, County Clare Ireland.
It is a family run hotel which has been welcoming visitors for nearly 140 years.
Known then as the Queens Hotel, it was opened 1875. The Queens was a very popular place with English Gentlemen who came to enjoy hunting and fishing.
Before 1948, this hotel was owned by the Irish Tourist Board and was the first hotel in Ireland to have hot and cold running water.
At this time it became known as the Hydro Hotel.
In November 1975, one hundred years after it first opened, it was bought by enterprising Donegal businessman James White.
With 110 rooms, and a luxurious lounge area, the hotel is perfect for those wanting to get away from it all.
The Hydro has since been completely modernised, and has 110 bedrooms. It also boasts Lisdoonvarna’s only nightclub.
The Hotel offers shuttle buses to points of interest near Lisdoonvarna such as The Burren Centre, Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch and many more.
Irish Bands play live music every night at the Hydro Hotel bar.
In September, Lisdoonvarna hosts the annual Matchmaking Festival and the small town comes alive with music, dancing and the craic. Last year it saw another innovation, spear-headed by the owner and organizer Marcus White, in which the gay community were welcomed and included as part of the event, the world’s first 1st LGBT Matchmaking festival.
